Everyone at Nick's school is fascinated by the online role-playing game "Erebos". Whoever starts it can't get away from it. But the rules of the game are very strict:
You only have one chance;
You can't talk to anyone about it;
You always have to play alone - and anyone who breaks the rules or doesn't do his or her job is thrown out.
But "Erebos" seems to know its players. It speaks to them, observes them, tests them. The game has an ever increasing influence on what happens in the real world. In order to move forward, Nick is even supposed to kill a person.
